Small Business Commissioner Tours the Factory

On March 10th, Edison Price Lighting proudly opened its doors to the Commissioner of the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS), New York City Council members, and Long Island City Partnership leaders.  During their tour, the group got an inside look into American manufacturing.

To kickoff their tour, Edison Price Lighting president, Emma Price, offered a warm welcome, and an overview of our history (founded in New York City in 1952) and our current projects.

The tour began in our in-house factory. Our Manufacturing Engineering Manager, Alex Shield, walked the group through our manufacturing operation process. The process begins on the loading dock, where we receive raw materials like locally-sourced aluminium and steel. Next, employees operate punch presses and computerized machinery to convert these raw materials into parts, and then assemble them into final products. Employees finish the products with handcrafted techniques, including wiring and painting.

The second half of the tour showed the fixtures in action. The Edison Price Lighting Gallery is illuminated by the same recessed fixtures, track systems, and wallgrazing systems manufactured downstairs. The group viewed the Gallery's two concurrent exhibitions: Light Inspired (featuring artwork by lighting designers), and Chapter 2 (featuring artwork by alumni of the Queens Council of the Art's "High School to Art School" program).
